- Exposing Dishonest Comic Book Sellers
Not everyone will agree with what I am talking about in this particular article, so read carefully about what is being said. This isn't about a free-market or opinions or siding with these people or that group - it`s strictly about prices with respect to current Comic Book Price Guide (CBPG) prices in a current comic book price guide. It`s also NOT about the price guide being merely a guide but how CGC prices do not correspond to the CBPG. So what is the problem? There is no listing for CGC comic book prices in the current CBPG ANYWHERE at all, period. Source: merriam-webster 1: a dishonest person 2: a criminal 3: a person who engages in fraudulent or criminal practices. Because the law dos NOT provide any regulation over these immoral profiteers, an expert in the field will openly tell you that if you are ignorant of the facts and fall victim to such people without first checking the prices and discover later that the actual value was far lower than the price you paid for it- your the dupe not the seller. Until such a time when so-called CGC/PGX/Vault graded comic books come under some regulating law, YOU should have a copy of the current comic book price guide and compare the asking price the seller is revealing to the actual value of the comic book itself with respect to it`s condition and examine it carefully before making any purchase. Understand the cost involved in getting your own comic books CGC graded, mummified and how. Inadvertent tears, creases and accidents can transpire when a seller does this and devalues the comic book before being sold to any buyer - so steer clear of such sellers even if it is negligible.
This isn`t about manipulating others in a forum and manipulating the fact to make it appear as if it were not dishonest or wrong to do so based upon some world view or making claims that the CBPG is just that a guide. Your fooling yourself.
Just because I am more savvy, can navigate through variable comic book prices found throughout eBay and Amazon, locate the best deal as opposed to not steering clear of crooks prevalent on eBay and Amazon with respect to those who are ignorantly are victimized by dishonest business practitioners who KNOWINGLY take advantage of others unethically to make a profit from comic book collectors who are not as savvy.
Let me tell you what is going on in the world of so-called professionally graded comic books and expose the truth as to why CGC prices vary as well as are overpriced by these inappropriate comic book sellers on eBay and Amazon.
In addition to this, comprehend that this ONLY applies to Comic Book Sales (Buy-It-Now)/(BIN) and NOT to online Auctions.
First, since this is true, so-called professional comic book grading done via CGC, PGX or Vault DOES NOT in ANYWAY, WHATSOEVER affect comic book prices regardless of the so-called professional grading by these same companies.
Second, because there is no listing for CGC graded comic books there is NO REASON why CGC and other so-called graded comic books should be more expensive than what the CBPG says the actual value of the comic book is.
Somehow, in the mind of sellers who have CGC graded comics, that just because the comic book is now professionally graded by a so-called professional grading company - that that fact makes it morally right to jack up the price of the comic book-(s) far above the actual value of comic book according to the CBPG price as listed.
Avengers #57 (Non-CGC) Overpriced (BIN) at $700.00. CBPG Price
$68 to $248 at (8.0).

So in effect there should be some sort of regulation over the variable prices that anyone can find on eBay or Amazon - somewhere you can report those people who are doing so...right?
Amazon and eBay do nothing to disable dishonest sellers of comic books or CGC comics anywhere. (As Usual) So if someone like myself goes around town reporting every tom dick and harry...it will more than likely lead to being kicked off eBay and/or Amazon.
To add to this irritating problem - it goes on and on and on...unchecked and unregulated, you`ll have as much luck trying to find a fart in a sandstorm than stopping the numerous ebay and Amazon sellers who have overrun online selling arenas hoping for those buyers who should know that online CGC comic book sellers price their mummified comic books high above the actual value of the book according to the CBPG.
So what`s does one do?
Also, carefully read the description with respect to the book itself and after delivery if the description does match the condition reflecting the grade, then take steps to remit a refund.
Be aware of comic books that are pressed, which crease the spine - so that when you read the issue the spine can and will eventually tear the cover away from the spine.
If your looking for Non-CGC comic books - avoid sellers who remove comics from the protective bag and board, open the comic book up and take unnecessary photographs.
Unless you own the comic book yourself, the seller has no business taking the comic book out of the protective bag and board in the first place unless he or she is doing so to write a description and does so in a careful manner as though it were very old.
Zoom-in on Non-CGC comic books and check both sides of the comic book you are considering purchasing to check for false upgrades or restored comics - look for maker pen re-coloring and differentials in colors, presses and paper leafing. If the comic book is restored the seller should not deliberately omit this fact from the description and you should ask the online seller what was done to restore the comic and by whom was it done.
Take precautions to prevent being ripped-off so that you can have a better buying experience.
